Reliance Com-Ericsson case: Supreme Court holds Anil Ambani guilty of contempt, orders him to pay fine within a month or go to jail

The court rejected an unconditional apology submitted by Reliance Communications. The court has ordered Reliance Communications to pay Rs 453 crores to Ericsson in addition to the Rs 118 crores that it was supposed to pay.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday held Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communication (RCom) guilty of contempt of court. The Supreme Court said three Reliance companies had no intentions to adhere to the instructions given by it.

The court also rejected an unconditional apology submitted by Reliance Communications. The Supreme Court ordered Reliance Communications to pay Rs 453 crores to Ericsson, in addition to the Rs 118 crores that it was supposed to pay.

Ericsson India had filed a contempt of court case against Anil Ambani and accused him of not clearing dues worth Rs 550 crore.

The court said the amount should be paid within a month. In case the firm defaults on this, Anil Ambani will face imprisonment of three months.

Besides this, the Supreme Court also told Reliance Telecom and Reliance Infratel to pay Rs 1 crore each within four weeks to Supreme Court registry.

The court held that Reliance Communications was willfully not paying Rs 550 crore to Ericsson.

Following which Reliance Communication release a media notice.
