In the first phase, health workers administered COVID-19 vaccine in J&K

The COVID-19 vaccination drive was launched in the District Hospital Pulwama, with a target of 100 vaccinations per day.

Over 60 health workers were administered COVID-19 vaccine in Kashmir valley’s southern district of Pulwama on Saturday, while the nationwide launch of the COVID-19 vaccination drive is underway.

As per hospital sources, they have received a lot of 1000 vails of the vaccine, most of which are being administered to the health workers in the first phase.

Talking to Digpu News, Dr Gowhar Nabi (Medical Officer at DH Pulwama) said, “This vaccination drive was launched in presence of officials from district administration including DC Pulwama and we welcome this development.”

“We had a target of 100 vaccinations for the day and 60 have been already done. However, the drive will continue in the coming days as well,” he added.

Dr Gowhar further said, “I have been administered the vaccine myself and I have no sort of complication. It is perfectly safe, just like as other normal vaccines.”

When asked about the misconception that SOPs need not be followed after the COVID-19 vaccine is administered, he replied, “As long as the virus is there, we need to follow the SOPs as usual, even after the administration of the vaccine. There is no second thought about that.”

Meanwhile, at the inaugural function at SKIMS Soura, Advisor to Lt Governor, R R Bhatnagar and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Shahid Choudhary were present, where first COVID vaccine shot was given to Director SKIMS, Dr. AG Ahangar and a sanitation worker while in Jammu, LG Manoj Sinha inaugurated the vaccination drive.

Officials said that there are 40 sites in J&K where vaccination is taking place and around 100 frontline workers at each site will get vaccinated today.

It is pertinent to mention here that on Wednesday, J&K received a batch of 1. 465 lakh Covishield vaccines and among them, 79,000 were received by Kashmir division.

As per the Government of India guidelines, people who receive the first shot of Covidshield vaccine will be injected only Covidshield as the second dose.

“Covishield is highly effective vaccine against novel coronavirus,” Adar Poonawalla, chief executive officer, Serum Institute of India earlier mentioned.

Researchers claim the vaccine protected against disease in 62% of those given two full doses and in 90% of those initially given a half dose.
