Guru Gobind Singh’s birth anniversary observed with fervour in Pulwama

The usual function held at Gurdwara Chetipadshahi Rainawari in old Srinagar city was cancelled this year due to renovation work.

Pulwama –

Amid chilly weather conditions, Sikh community observed the 354th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh on Wednesday here in southern Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Sikhs visited a local Gurudwara at Shadimarg area in the district and offered special prayers on the occasion.

While talking to Digpu News, the members from Gurdwara Prabandhan Committee said that people, especially the members of Sikh community, should learn from the sacrifices offered by Guru Ji and his accomplices.

“Our Guru Ji adorned the Sikhs with the five K’s and transformed them into a martial community for the protection of humanity without any bias of caste, creed or religion,” a Sikh said while attending the religious gathering at the Gurdwara.

Meanwhile, the usual grand function held at Gurdwara Chetipadshahi Rainawari in old Srinagar city was cancelled this year due to some renovation work at the sacred place. However, similar functions were held at Gurdwara Baghat Barzulla in the uptown Srinagar.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, his Advisors and political leaders from different parties greeted the Sikh community on the auspicious occasion.

It is worthwhile to mention here that Guru Gobind Singh, who was born in 1666, is known for founding Sikh warrior community called Khalsa in 1699. He was installed as 10th and last Sikh Guru at the age of 9. He was a warrior, leader, poet and philosopher who played a key role in installing Bahadur Shah as Mughal king after the death of Aurangzeb.
