Pulwama researcher honoured with ‘Jawaharlal Nehru Award’ in Animal Science field
PULWAMA (J&K) — The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) honoured a researcher from Pulwama in Animal Science field earlier this month with Jawaharlal Nehru Award for PG Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Research in Agricultural and Allied Sciences 2019.
The researcher, Dr Mohd Iqbal Bhat from Wuyan area of Pampore in the southern district, was awarded at the 92nd ICAR Foundation Day ceremony which was held online on July 16 this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Thanks to all who were directly or indirectly involved with my doctoral research program, especially to my mentor Dr. Rajeev Kapila, co-advisors, seniors, juniors and all other people at NDRI Karnal Haryana,” Iqbal said, while expressing his happiness.
He added, “A special thanks to my family members who have been always there to support me.”
Iqbal completed his PhD in Biochemistry from Animal Biochemistry Division, National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana in 2018 ‘under the guidance’ Dr. Rajeev Kapila and is presently Research Associate there. Earlier, he was awarded by his Institute as well for “best thesis”.
Mohd Iqbal has 11 international ‘publications’ to his name and “all are high impact ones.” According to him, he also has two ‘national book chapters’ to his credit. “Inspire Award, Young Investigator Award and Best Oral Presentation Award are some other awards that I was honoured with,” he said.
It is important to mention here that Jawaharlal Nehru Award for PG Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Research in Agricultural and Allied Sciences is given annually in order to promote high-quality doctoral thesis research in priority/frontier areas of agriculture and allied sciences. The award also carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 in cash.
