The Jharkhand Academic Council postponed its matriculation and intermediate exams on April 17 due to an increase in Coronavirus infections

Hemant Soren, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, on Thursday evening announced the cancellation of examinations for classes 10th and 12th in the state.

The decision, according to the chief minister, has been taken after proper assessment of the state’s emerging COVID-19 situation as well as the demand by the students and their parents.

The exams for this year’s session were scheduled to be held by the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), however, novel Coronavirus had so far affected the process.

“Today, in view of the circumstances arising out of COVID-19 and the demand of students and parents, I have decided to cancel the 10th and 12th examinations to be conducted by Jharkhand Academic Council in this session,” CM Hemant Soren announced on Twitter.

The Jharkhand Academic Council postponed its matriculation and intermediate exams on April 17 due to an increase in Coronavirus infections. It also halted practical tests for students in grades 10 and 12 on April 15 after a large number of students tested positive for COVID-19.

On Thursday, the Jharkhand administration decided to prolong the state’s lockdown-like restrictions till June 17 with limited exceptions. Every Saturday, however, from 4 PM to 6 AM, there will be a total lockdown.

Beginning April 22, the state has extended the lockdown and set limitations for the almost sixth time in the guise of Health Safety Week.
