Tamil Nadu ITIs to be technology centres; State inks deal with Tata Technologies
Tamil Nadu has signed an MoU with Tata Technologies to transform its ITIs into technology centres
In what could be termed a major leap in the technical training scenario of Tamil Nadu, the state has entered into an agreement with Tata Technologies to transform the already existing Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into technology centres.
The development comes needs to be seen as a path-breaking move from the state government as it goes about blending new age technologies with industrial training in a major manner. The State Employment Department functioning under the Tamil Nadu administration has inked a memorandum of understanding with Tata Technologies to this effect, in the presence of the state Chief Minister M K Stalin.
71 ITIs to be technology centres
The memorandum of understanding details that around 71 government ITIs would be developed into technology centres. These spruced up technology centres re expected to offer training in the skill development to youngsters who enrol at these centres. The Tamil Nadu government has elaborated that the industrial training institutes that will now be technology centres have been accorded sanction to equip themselves with state of the art hardware and software. An amount of Rs 2,877.43 crore has been earmarked to this effect. The installation would be made effective in partnership with major industrial establishments.
Sprucing up of it is into technology centres comes as a novel initiative aimed at the skilling of youngsters. The State Employment Department will forge partnerships with private companies, and these partnerships will prove helpful in imparting training to students in robotics, industrial automation, manufacturing process control, advanced manufacturing, internet of things, additive manufacturing, industrial painting and advanced welding.
New education stream, modern machinery to be brought in
The state government-run ITIs would get an upgrade, with the renovation and installation of modern machinery. New stream of education will also be introduced so as to hike the employability factor of its trainees.
Media reports said that the Tamil Nadu administration is planning to enter into partnerships with more private enterprises so as to train instructors of the industrial training institutes across the state develop the institutions into world class technology centres. This will in turn help in a manifold increase in the employability of the youngsters who are imparted training at these institutes.
