Amazon Prime Video bags Ponniyin Selvan streaming rights for Rs 125 crore

Mega movie Ponniyin Selvan is Mani Ratnam’s adaptation of author Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel of the same name

The much-read Ponniyin Selvan, authored by Kalki Krishnamurthy, is all set to arrive in the form of a mega movie. With teasers, trailers and songs now in public domain, the Mani Ratnam opus is the most awaited movie of the year.

The film, made in two parts, has been garnering much attention from all around. And now, it is now revealed that the film will hop on to the OTT platform as well, apart from being released worldwide in theatres. Going by the revelations, the two parts of Ponniyin Selvan (PS-1 and PS -2) will stream digitally on Amazon Prime Video.

According to what we hear, the digital streaming rights of the epic film helmed by ace film maker Mani Ratnam have been bagged by Amazon Prime Video for a whopping price of Rs 125 crore.

Ponniyin Selvan is this year’s most anticipated film

While the first part of Ponniyin Selvan will arrive in theatres soon, the second part will be released in a few months’ time. The mammoth price that Prime Video will be handing over to the film’s producers has brought to the discussion circles the significance of the movie made on a mega wide canvas.

Further, the satellite rights of the epic venture have gone to the Sun TV for a huge amount, though the details are undisclosed. The audio and trailer launch will be aired on the channel a week before the grand release, it is said.

The flick narrates on a large canvas the tale of the largest empire, and has in the cast some big names from the Indian film industry. From Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, and Karthi who don the lead roles, to actors like Prakash Raj, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prabhu, Jayaram, Lal and more who play supporting roles, Ponniyin Selvan would bring to the screen a hitherto unseen effort in the most cinematic manner.

Epic flick comes with AR Rahman’s music

The venture had triggered much anticipation right from the start when Mani Ratnam announced that he is adapting renowned author Kalki Krishnamurthy’s literary novel of the same name. Enthusiasm grew in leaps and bounds when AR Rahman was roped in to take care of the music department.

A few days ago, the trailer and audio launch of Ponniyin Selvan was organised a mega event at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. Prominent names such as Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth were among the guests of honour at the event.

With Amazon Prime Video bagging the digital streaming rights of the epic flick, the world would get to see a mega movie from Tamil Nadu as soon as it is launched on the much popular OTT platform.
