The Kashmir Files, the 1990 insurgency-themed flick, proves a winner at the box office

Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files has received the thumbs up from audiences across India and the globe.

The Kashmir Files, the film helmed by Vivek Agnihotri, is on a roll. The flick, which has the Kashmir of 1990 as the backdrop, had not enthused many when it was announced. However, the film has surpassed expectations and has, on its third day of release, amassed Rs 15.10 crore at the box office.

Made on a shoestring budget, The Kashmir Files had not seen much of a marketing exercise too. Controversies on the subject had also threatened to pull it down when released in cinemas. But the results at the box office has been spectacular, until now.

The film which was released in theatres on March 11 saw audiences lapping it up, making it an absolute winner, and it has even pushed down releases such as Prabhas-starrer Radhe Shyam and others which opened in cinemas around the same time.

The Kashmir Files boasts a stellar cast

The Kashmir Files has a stellar cast, with Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Shraddha Pandit and others playing prominent roles. Narrating the tale of 1990 Kashmir during the insurgency period, The Kashmir Files had made Rs 3.55 crore on its release day.

Demand surged as the film opened to huge audiences, and the producers have pushed up screens to around 2000. On Saturday, the second day, the film collected Rs. 8.5 crore, and on the third, Agnihotri’s opus amassed Rs 15.10 crore. The film has had a world-wide opening too and it made Rs 2.15 crore at the global box office.

Making merry at the box office

The audience has given the thumbs up to the film, for the way it narrates the sufferings forced upon Kashmiri Pandits in 1990. Anupam Kher as Pushkarnath, Mithun Chakraborty as Brahma Dutt, Darshan Kumar as Krishna Pandit, Pallavi Joshi as Radhika Menon, Bhasha Sumbali as Shraddha Pandit and Chinmay Mandlekar as Farooq Malik aka Bitta, shine in this well-made flick, which has financial backing from Tej Narayan Agarwal, Abhishek Agarwal, Pallavi Joshi and Vivek Agnihotri under the Zee Studios, IAmBuddha and Abhishek Agarwal Arts banners.

A tweet by trade analysts Taran Adarsh described the scene thus:

The film is on its way to create new records. Vivek Agnihotri sure is a happy man, for having made it resonate well with the audiences. The numbers could grow in the coming days.
