Lifesaving advanced cardiac surgery performed on an 85-year-old, amidst lockdown in middle of the night.
Amidst the present lockdown, where access to healthcare is becoming a challenge for many patients, Yatharth Group Of Hospitals is making efforts to ensure critical health needs of patients and necessary essentials aren’t hindered in this overwhelming situation.
It was in such a situation that an 85-years old patient came to Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital, Greater Noida with a complex health condition. He came to the hospital with acute chest pain on Friday night 24th April and was diagnosed with a critical Left Main Disease (90-95%) in addition to a critical Triple Vessel Disease.
The left main coronary artery (LMCA) disease is known to be the highest-risk condition of the cardiovascular system, a lesion subset ischemic heart disease, which usually indicates the need for a coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Triple vessel disease patients have a condition in which their 3 big vessels (the left anterior descending, the right coronary and the circumflex arteries) gets visibly blocked by atherosclerotic plaques (plaques forming inside arteries), which over the time, hardens and narrows the arteries.
An emergency CABG was performed in view of critical Left Main Disease and unstable angina on Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump by Yatharth Hospitals’ CTVS team led by Dr Akhil Rustagi, along with Cardiologist Dr, Pankaj Ranjan and Cardiac Anesthetist Dr. Arun Sharma.
The surgery was done on Beating Heart Support, performed amidst the lockdown in the middle of the night, while the surgical team dedicated their immediate attention and blood products were arranged by the hospital without any delay. Complete and utmost care was ensured towards hygiene and safety precaution measures, so as to keep the patient safe from any infection, especially considering the cardiovascular condition.
Patient showed signs of quick recovery, healed well since the surgery, and was out of the ventilator within 24 hours, and was out of bed on the 4th day after the surgery. Dr Akhil Rastogi, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon said “Yatharth Hospital is committed to providing quality cardiac care.
People residing in Greater Noida and adjoining peripheral areas like Jewar, Bulandshahr, don’t need to travel far anymore for such advanced cardiac procedures especially when borders are sealed in lockdown. With a full CTVS in-house team, there is full cardiology & CTVS back up available 24*7 hours.”
Dr Kapil Tyagi, Managing Director Yatharth Group Of Hospitals added that “The country is going through trying times amidst the coronavirus outbreak. But private hospitals need to ensure there is no panic created in situations where patients suffering from pre-existing conditions of heart or kidney come looking for treatments. There is a need to ensure necessary treatments of such patients doesn’t get hindered and complete care is provided.”
