Covid relief assistance to be disbursed through DBT: Karnataka CM B.S. Yediyurappa

Yediyurappa launched the Covid relief assistance scheme concerning the second wave of the pandemic for the Building and Other Construction Workers

B.S. Yediyurappa, Chief Minister of Karnataka, on Saturday informed that the Covid relief assistance to Building and Other Construction Workers will be disbursed by way of Direct Bank Transfer (DBT) in the state.

Chief Minister Yediyurappa launched the Covid relief assistance scheme concerning the second wave of the pandemic for the Building and Other Construction Workers.

Mr. Yediyurappa was attending an event organized by the Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.

Among many officials from the government, Shivaram Hebbar (Minister For Labour Department), Rajiv Chawla (Additional Chief Secretary) and Akram Pasha (Labor Commissioner) were also present on the occasion.

Earlier, the CM had announced cash relief to different groups including film and TV industry workers, fishing community, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, weavers, and people working in places of worship.

The lockdown imposed by the second wave of the pandemic in the state has already been extended till June 14. The restrictions are in effect till 6 AM on June 14.

“We have extended the lockdown for another week because in the villages, the Covid situation is worst… If case come down to 5 per cent, we will give relief to everybody,” Mr Yediyurappa said on Thursday.

On Friday, the state reported 16,068 new cases of COVID-19 and 364 deaths, taking the number of infections and fatalities to 26,69,514 and 30,895 respectively. The positivity rate in the state stood at 0.68 per cent.

The state now has 2,80,186 active cases whereas the total number of patients discharged stands at 23,58,412. As many as 22,316 people have recovered from the disease.
