Watch: DDC election candidates launch door to door campaign in Pulwama

Unfazed by the militant threat, two DDC election candidates from Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Nazir Ahmad Dar and Sajjad Raina have been campaigning door to door.

Pulwama, J&K

As the District Development Council (DDC) elections have begun as a first polling exercise after the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the DDC candidates have finally started their door to door campaign in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Observers believe that the development attains significant importance, given the fact that south Kashmir — Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam — is a stronghold of militants with the area having remote stretches of the mountain where the Army has hardly ventured.

Unfazed by the militant threat, two DDC election candidates from Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Nazir Ahmad Dar and Sajjad Raina have been campaigning door to door. Both of them started their campaign from their native villages.

Nazir went door to door in his native Rahmoo village while seeking support for election from Pulwama-II constituency. On the other hand, Sajad Raina, the BJP‘s nominee for Pulwama B, started the door-to-door election campaign from his native Arihal village.

As the polling date is inching closer for their constituencies, both the candidates are intensifying their voter outreach. They ask people to support and vote for them and in return, the development of their villages is promised.

Meanwhile, the regional parties who decided to fight the DDC elections under the banner of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) alleged that BJP was barring their leaders from door to door campaign. However, they also see DDC election as a people’s election which can lead to development, provided that the right candidates are elected.
