With exit polls prohibited, J&K records 39.34% voting till 1 PM

The highest percentage of polling till 1 PM in Jammu region was recorded in Samba district with 59.29 per cent while as Kishtwar recorded the lowest with 27.14 per cent.

The first phase of DDC elections 2020 recorded a voter percentage of 39.34% across different constituencies spread over all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir till 1:00 PM.

In Kashmir region, Budgam district recorded the highest percentage till 1 PM with 47.44 percent while as Pulwama district recorded the lowest with 6.08 percent.

As per the figures given by the office of State Election Commissioner, in Kashmir Division, Budgam has recorded voting percentage of 47.447%, Ganderbal 36.262%, Bandipora 34.183%, Kupwara 34.107%, Srinagar 29.944%, Anantnag 26.656%, Baramulla 25.58%, Kulgam 24.494%, Shopian 9.868% and Pulwama 6.083% and till 1:00 PM.

Meanwhile, the State Election Commission, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has prohibited the conduct of any exit poll and publishing/displaying of the result of exit poll by means of the print or electronic media or in any other manner in the ongoing District Development Council elections till the last phase of the elections.

An order issued in this connection by State Election Commissioner, KK Sharma reads, “In exercise of powers conferred under Section 36 of the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act 1989, the Election Authority (State Election Commission) hereby prohibits the conduct of any exit poll and publishing or publicizing/displaying the result of exit poll by means of the print or electronic media or in any other manner in the ongoing District Development Council elections in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, till the hour fixed for conclusion of poll in the last phase of these elections, i.e. 2:00 PM on 19th December.”

It is pertinent to mention that the eight-phased DDC elections are being held from today which are the maiden elections in Jammu and Kashmir since it was reorganised as a Union Territory last year, and it is being held along with by-elections to Panchayats.
