Hokersar Encounter: He was innocent, preparing for exams, says family of ‘militant’ killed in Srinagar

The family demands the body of the alleged militant killed in Hokersar encounter, Srinagar calling it a fake encounter.

Barely an hour after Jammu and Kashmir Police along with CRPF and Army claimed to have killed three militants in a gunfight in Hokersar area of Srinagar, family members of one of the three militants’ claimed that their kin is not a militant and was killed in a “fake encounter.”

Shouting slogans, the family members and relatives of the slain militant, identified as Aijaz Ahmed Ganie of Putrigam area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, assembled outside the residence of the slain and demanded the return of their kin’s dead body.

“He was resting at home for the last one month. Doctors had advised for his surgery and was under treatment. He left home to visit his college but we don’t know how he reached there. We are sure that he was going to visit his college. He is innocent and we demand his body,” a local said.

Another relative of the slain said, “I talked to the boy yesterday and asked him for notes of 5th Semester. He had assured me that he will provide me with the notes after he submits his form in University. We fail to understand how he was killed like that.”

“The picture of the dead body of Aijaz on social media has shocked all of us,” said one of his relatives.

Accusing that their kin was killed in a “fake Hokersar encounter”, the family is now demanding the return of Aijaz’s dead body from the possession of local Police.
