Farmer Leader Rakesh Tikait Warns of ‘farming Strike’ In Protest Against Centre

Rakesh Tikait has made it clear that if the “insensitive” government continues to overlook their demands they might think about steps as drastic and desperate as a farming strike

Farmer protests have been going on in India for close to 6 months now. Farmers from all over the country have camped on the borders of Delhi and even amidst the deadly second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, they have not given up on their demands. In fact, during the second wave, these farmers have tried to manage COVID, farming, as well as protests and one, can say that they have done this successfully. However, in the latest development, BKU leader Rakesh Tikait has launched a fresh attack on the government.

Rakesh Tikait has made it clear that if the “insensitive” government continues to overlook their demands amidst a back-breaking second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, they might think about steps as drastic and desperate as a farming strike. A farming strike would mean that these farmers will refuse to join their farmlands and bring produce to a halt. The government could be faced with another insurmountable task if indeed farmers act on this threat.

It is notable that Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar also faced opposition in his own parliamentary constituency. Their convoy was stopped by protesters in protest against agricultural laws. Tomar district hospital was going for inspection, when protesters surrounded them on the way. On the Sheopur bypass road, protesters showed him black flags. There was also a clash between the police and the protesters on the spot. The police has detained more than a dozen farmers.

According to eyewitnesses, when the convoy of Union Minister Tomar went towards the district hospital, in front of the village police station located in the city, a dozen farmers of the United Farmers Organization United Kisan Morcha came in front of the convoy and shouted ‘Narendra Singh Tomar Murdabad’ Demanded them to withdraw the agricultural laws. During this time, the leaders of the farmers’ organization said to them, “You are our MP, we have voted for you and we vote for the BJP.”
