LeT suffers a major setback in J&K’s Shopian as four militants killed

A nocturnal gunfight raged early morning in the Manihal area of the southern district on Monday

In a major setback to Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit, four of its militants were killed in a gunfight in the Manihal area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday. However, an Army trooper was also injured during the gunfight.

A top official from Jammu and Kashmir Police confirmed that four militants of LeT were killed while as one Army soldier sustained bullet wound in foot in the gunfight.

However, the identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, police claimed to have recovered one AK-47 rifle and two pistols from the slain militants.

Earlier, a joint team government forces including J&K Police, Army and 178 BN of CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Manihal area. Soon after the joint team of forces intensified the searches near the suspected location, the gunfight broke out.

It is pertinent to mention that Kashmir valley is the main focus of the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba‘s militant activities, their stated objective, however, is not limited to challenging India’s sovereignty over Jammu and Kashmir. The Kashmir problem, according to LeT, is part of a larger ‘global struggle’.
