In another shocking incident, a tribal in Madhya Pradesh was thrashed after an accident. Not content the perpetrators of the crime tied the hapless tribal behind a pickup and dragged him for over a kilometre leading to his death. This is another incident of lawlessness which has increased ever since the extreme right-wing BJP party has come to power in the state. Incidents of mob lynching are increasing and so are such inhuman incidents of a show of power.

The Indian Express reports that the 40-year-old tribal identified as Kanhaiyalal Bheel was standing when milkman Chhitar Mal Gurjar carrying milk on a motorcycle knocked down the victim Kanhaiyalal Bheel of Banda village when he was standing on the Neemuch-Singoli road. Gurjar lost his cool when the milk he was carrying got spilt on the road and started to thrash the victim.

Not satisfied, Gurjar called his friends who again thrashed the victim and tied him to a truck. They dragged him for over a kilometre. Bheel suffered fatal injuries and died on the way to the hospital. Police came to know about the incident only after the video of the inhuman act went viral.

Five arrested ,three accused still at large

Superintendent of Police Suraj Kumar Verma told reporters here that by the time the victim was taken to the Neemuch Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Five of the accused have been arrested while efforts are on to catch the other culprits. The arrested include Chhitarmal Gurjar (32), Mahendra Gurjar and Gopal Gurjar (both 40), Lokesh Balai (21), and Laxman Gurjar.

All the eight accused have been charged under sections 302 (Punishment for murder) and other sections of the Indian Penal Code and the SC/ST (prevention of atrocities) Act, added the SP.

Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath tweeted and described the incident as inhuman and said that it is yet another testimony of the state of lawlessness in the state. He asked the State Government to taker strict action against the accused and take measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

The original video that is now going viral on the internet shows the victim’s hopelessness. The show of power seems like an amusement to the accused. While caste-based violence can’t be brushed under the rug anymore, justice is awaited in the case.
