Massive forest to bloom in Mumbai as 812 acres land handed to State Forest Department and to SGNP

The notified forest land of Aarey Milk Colony, Aarey land at Borivali, Goregaon, and Marol Maroshi has been officially handed over to the said departments

Uddhav Thackeray, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, on Monday said that a massive forest bloom was coming up in the state as 812 acres of land has been handed over to the State Forest Department and Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP).

The notified land of Aarey Milk Colony, Aarey land at Borivali, Goregaon, and Marol Maroshi has been officially handed over to the said departments.

812 Acres of notified land of Aarey Milk Colony, Aarey land at Borivali, Goregaon, Marol Maroshi & Marol Maroshi village have been officially handed over to the State Forest Department & SGNP,” he said.

He further added, “This decision paves a path for a massive forest to blossom in the heart of Mumbai.”

It is in place to mention here that there are 11 territorial forest circles in Maharashtra including Amravati, Aurangabad, Chandrapur, Dhule, Gadchiroli, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Nashik, Pune, Thane, and Yavatmal.

To fight climate change and droughts in the state, Maharashtra Forest Department planted 52 crore trees between 2017 and 2019 and the survival rate remains to be 81%.
