Mehbooba Mufti was detained under Public Safety Act on August 05, last year,  when the Central government abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the erstwhile State into two Union Territories.

People’s Democratic Party chief and former Chief Minister of J&K, Mehbooba Mufti was on Tuesday shifted to her residence at Gupkar area of Srinagar. She will continue to be under house detention as her residence has been as a subsidiary jail.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (b) of section 2 of the Prisoners Act, 1990, the government hereby declares Fairview, Gupkar Road, Srinagar as “Subsidiary Jail”,” an order issued by Principal Secretary to Government, Shaleen Kabra, reads.

Meanwhile, former chief minister and National Conference vice president, Omar Abdullah in his tweet said that Mehbooba must be released completely, without any conditions.

“Mehbooba Mufti must be set free. Shifting her home while continuing to keep her detained is a cop-out,” Omar tweeted.

While former legislator from PDP, Firdous Tak said, “A mighty nation and a powerful party in power fears a woman. Had to convert her residence into jail to ensure her silence. Thats the power of honesty and commitment and lesson for everyone else. Proud of #IronLadyofKashmir @MehboobaMufti. You r a true leader.”
