ICC has announced the fixtures of Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, slated to begin in Oman and UAE from 17 October digitally

ICC has digitally announced the Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 schedule, around 9 am (Dubai time) today. The marquee tournament divided into two preliminary groups will begin from October 17 in Oman as the hosts gears up against Papua New Guinea.

According to the statement, Former England cricketer Isa Guha moderated the launch event. She had discussed the prospects of different teams, notable matchups, and highlight the key players in the 16-team tournament with Daren Sammy and Dinesh Karthik in the video event. 

“Players in the T20 format have only gotten more skillful over the past five years since the last edition, and I bet we are in for some scintillating performances and nerve-wracking thrillers,” Dinesh Karthik said at the launch event, adding, “India is placed in a tough group.”

Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 Format And Schedule

According to ICC, the T20 world cup 2021 will have two rounds. In the first round, eight new teams will be divided into two groups.

Group A: Ireland, Netherlands, Sri Lanka, and Namibia

Group B: Oman, Scotland, Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea

The top two teams in each group will proceed to the Super12 stage of the tournament, beginning on 23 October. Each Super12 stage group consists of four teams. India is placed in Group 2, according to their ICC team rankings alongside Pakistan, Afghanistan, and New Zealand. They will begin the tournament against arch-rivals Pakistan on 24 October.

 Dubai will host the finals on 11 November.

India Vs Pakistan in Men’s T20 World Cup

In T20 cricket, India defeated Pakistan 5-0 across all editions of the world cup. The last T20 match between the arch-rivals was played in Eden Garden, Kolkata. Pakistan lost that match by six wickets.

India also leads 14-3 from men in green in ICC events. The most notable win of India against Pakistan was in the finals of the first T20 World Cup. The last-minute catch by S. Sreesanth sealed the win. Twitter erupts after the announcement of the India Vs Pakistan match.

Meanwhile, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is delighted to see Oman as a part of this mega tournament. He said that the T20 world cup will increase the popularity of cricket among the young generation, according to Business Standard.  

Though India has a glorious track record against Pakistan, New Zealand has defeated India in all ICC tournaments since 2003. Off late, the Blackcaps ousted men in blue from the one-day world cup in 2019.
