The decision of whether to go ahead with the Amarnath Yatra 2021 will be taken after a comprehensive review of the evolving situation within the UT

SRINAGAR (J&K)

Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) on Thursday temporarily suspended the registration process for the pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath, situated in southern Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The Shrine Board further informed, “The situation is being constantly monitored and it would be reopened once the situation improves.”

“In view of evolving COVID situation in the country & the need to take all necessary precautionary measures, registration for Shri Amarnath Yatra 2021 is being temporarily suspended,” SASB said in a tweet.

However, as per officials of the Board, there has been no call over the pilgrimage so far, but only the registration process has been temporarily suspended.

The decision of whether to go ahead with the Amarnath Yatra 2021 will be taken after a comprehensive review of the evolving situation within the UT as well as the rest of the counter, officials maintain.

The annual pilgrimage of Amarnath Yatra 2021, which was suspended due to the pandemic last year, is scheduled to start on June 28.

Pertinently, for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic, India reported more than 3,15,000 fresh positive cases yesterday with 2091 deaths. These staggering statistics are the highest ever reported by any country since the outbreak of COVID-19.
