Srinagar, Monday, March 11, 2019 —

Barbed Wire Curbings On Roads In Downtown

“Barbed wire was placed on roads to ensure that no protest rally takes place against NIA summon to Mirwaiz,” said Lateef Ahmed, a local resident.

The call for a shutdown, given by Shahr-e-Khass coordination committee (SKCC), evoked a complete response as all shops and business establishments remained closed. Mild clashes between youth and forces were also witnessed in Naidkadal and NawaKadal.

On Saturday, Mirwaiz received a summon from the NIA asking him to produce himself before the agency’s court in New Delhi on Monday in connection with a case filed into the alleged militancy funding in Kashmir.

Hurriyat Has Had Thorough Discussion On This

A source said the Hurriyat (M) has already started deliberating over the NIA notice and is weighing its options on how to respond to it.

“A thorough discussion took place at the Nigeen residence of Mirwaiz, where senior party leaders were present. The decision on whether Mirwaiz would fly to Delhi has been put on hold until Monday,” the source said. Pertinently, the Hurriyat (M) chairman was placed under house arrest Saturday, while senior leaders of the organisation were kept outside his Nigeen residence and later allowed to meet Mirwaiz after an hour.
