Tech Takes Life: Indian Teen Commits Suicide After Being Refused A SmartPhone For Playing PUBG

A 19-year-old allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself after he had an argument with his family members over buying a new mobile phone for playing PUBG game.

A nineteen-year-old man committed suicide after he had an argument with his family members over buying a smartphone.

The victim has been identified as Nadeem Sheikh, a resident of Kurla’s Nehru Nagar. According to police, Nadeem used to work as a sales executive and lived with his mother, elder brother, his wife and kid.

Nadeem, a PUBG enthusiast had been eyeing a particular smartphone to play the game. The family told the police that Nadeem had had an argument with his elder brother about a mobile phone he wanted the previous night.

“The phone which he wanted was priced at Rs 37,000 which he had been demanding from his elder brother. The two had an argument over the issue on Thursday night after which the brother agreed to give him Rs 20,000. However, Nadeem was adamant on getting the entire amount from him and returned the money given by the elder brother,” said an official from Nehru Nagar police.

After the incident, the family members went to sleep by 2:00 am, however, Nadeem kept on playing some games on his phone.

“The brother said he got up to go to the toilet around 4:00 am and saw Nadeem’s body hanging by a rope from the ceiling fan,” said an officer.

Police have registered a case of accidental death and further probe is going on.

PUBG or ‘PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ is an online multiplayer game where about 100 players fight it out in free for all combat where the sole survivor emerges victorious.

Recently, an 11-year-old student filed a plea through his mother requesting the Bombay High Court to ban PUBG as it “promotes violence, aggression and cyber-bullying”.

There have been calls to ban the game as it is “addictive” and has been linked to poor results of students in exams.
