When invoking the gods of the pantheon turns UP poll plot

Look how Lord Krishna and Ram Rajya are pitted against BJP in the UP poll scene

The Assembly poll scenario in Uttar Pradesh is fast turning out to be a furnace where parties in the fray are vying with each other to roast each other. And the ridicule, the barbed attacks and the funny comments made against each other make for much fun.

For the parties, it is a do or die battle in the offing. And each one of them knows that well. When the BJP, which has Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at the centre of all things, is trying its best to keep rivals such as the Samajwadi Party pinned down, the SP led by Akhilesh Yadav isn’t willing to lie low.

The Samajwadi Party, on the contrary, wants to encounter the BJP head on, and led by Akhilesh Yadav, the party is doing just that, with near perfection. Take for instance the manner in Yadav stormed into the BJP campaign scene and declared that Lord Krishna comes in his dreams every night to tell him that he would form the government in Uttar Pradesh.

UP polls and the Lord Krishna dream

Though said in a lighter vein, Akhilesh Yadav’s words were barbed ammunition. For, the BJP has been banking on Lord Rama and talking of Ram Rajya being built in UP. The SP chief took the same weapon to barge into the BJP camp, by saying that the gods are with him and that Lord Krishna himself supports him.

The statement needs to be seen as a reference to his belief that the BJP has failed in giving the people a Ram Rajya that PM Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath had promised last time around.

Talking of socialism, or samajwad, Yadav declared that samajwad is possible only with eth efforts of a Samajwadi Party government in UP. He also declared that Ram Rajya will dawn in Uttar Pradesh the day Samajwadi Party comes to power in the state.

Attacking the Yogi Adityanath government for its alleged failures over the past five years has become a habit for Akhilesh Yadav. He even went to the extent of calling Adityanath a criminal, and substantiated his claim saying that BJP had made a man who had been facing several criminal cases as the state’s Chief Minister.

‘Tainted’ BJP and the washing machine

Not satisfied with that, he took the attack even further ahead, wondering whether the Bharatiya Janata Party had brought to Uttar Pradesh a washing machine so that it can clean up all its criminals and mafia elements in the state. His jibe at Yogi Adityanath’s climb to power by pushing down committed party functionaries who had been toiling in the state also followed.

With Akhilesh Yadav going all out in his attack against Yogi Adityanath and the Bharatiya Janata Party, Samajwadi Party functionaries on the ground in poll-bound UP may be seen as garnering more muscle. The party has one goal, and that is to unseat the BJP government. By doing this, Akhilesh will have a major win to speak of and to usher in what he believes would be the real Ram Rajya.

The 2017 UP poll for the Assembly had been an eye opener for the Samajwadi Party. Winning only 47 seats out of a total of 403 was a disaster the party never imagined to happen. And with the next chance coming up, Akhilesh is of course on a do or die mission. His party cadre too is happy being by his side, applauding all his words spoken at rallies and public meetings.

We need to wait and see how BJP and Yogi Adityanath would look to counter Akhilesh’s run. The party has been doing all it can by bringing in national leaders to seek votes. The Prime Minister is spending almost all his time in UP, and that also means the BJP is concerned. Rallies or jibes or poll promises apart, the voter will decide who would rule them for the next five years. Let’s also wait and watch as new scenes in the big UP poll screen unfold.
