Politicians condemn killing of BJP leader, his wife in J-K’s Anantnag
Ghulam Rasool Dar and his wife were assassinated, and Omar Abdullah strongly condemned the killings
SRINAGAR (J&K) — On Monday, the pollical leaders in Jammu and Kashmir union territory condemned the killing of a BJP Sarpanch and his wife in southern Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
In an official statement, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) said that the party unreservedly condemned the assassination of Sarpanch Ghulam Rasool Dar and his wife, Jawhara Banoo.
“J&K, especially Kashmir, has seen far too much bloodshed over the last three decades, and we must all come together to condemn attacks of this kind,” the party said in a tweet on its official handle.

Mr. Omar Abdullah, the NC’s Vice President and former Chief Minister of the erstwhile J&K State, has said categorically that he condemns the killing of Ghulam Rasool Dar and his wife.
As per Omar, the slain joins a long list of mainstream politicians who have been killed for their political beliefs.
While expressing condolences to the slain Sarpanch’s family and colleagues, the NC leader wished for a ‘place in Jannat’ for the deceased couple.
J-K BJP denounces the act as ‘cowardly’
Altaf Thakur, a spokesman for the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir, also denounced the assassination of district president Kisan Morcha BJP for Kulgam.
Assaulting and killing innocent people, Thakur added, is cruel and cowardly, and that the crimes demonstrate militants’ desperation.
J-K’s LG Manoj Sinha also condemned the killings
The UT’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also strongly condemned the ‘brutal’ militant attack on the Sarpanch and his wife from the Redwani Bala area of the Kulgam district.
The LG described the attack as an act of cowardice while maintaining that the perpetrators of violence will be brought to justice very soon.
He also wished his ‘deepest condolences’ to the bereaved family in this ‘time of grief.’
Deadly Anantnag attack was carried out on Monday afternoon
It is pertinent to mention here that suspected militants killed a BJP Sarpanch and Kisan Morcha district president and his wife in the Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Monday afternoon.
According to local media reports, militants fired at a BJP politician and Sarpanch, Ghulam Rasool of Redwani Bala, and his wife Jawhara Banoo, at their leased accommodation in Anantnag town.
The couple was sent to GMC Anantnag for treatment. However, they died of their injuries on the route to the hospital.
“The couple was residing in a secure accommodation in Kulgam, but they were permitted to stay in Anantnag on their request,” a local news outlet cited an unidentified police officer as saying.
Soon after their killing, their PSO was suspended with immediate effect, J-K Police said and added that Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) is behind the attack, who will be tracked down soon.
