Kerala to host a bunch of football tourneys this year, including final round of Santosh Trophy

Apart from the Santhosh Trophy final round, the state will witness the Women’s International Senior Tournament also

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala will play host to a slew of football tournaments in the coming days. Prominent among them will be the final round of the Santosh Trophy National Senior Football Championship.

The final round of the 75th Santosh Trophy will be held during the beginning of next year. As many as 23 matches, including the final, will form part of the tournament. The final will be played at Manjeri Payyanad Stadium.

Besides this, the International Football Championship will be held in December, in Kochi, and will have the participation of 4 major countries in the world of women’s football.

Sports Minister V Abdurahman told the media a while ago that the national junior and sub-junior championships for boys and girls will also be held in Kerala. The Sport Minister was accompanied by All India Football Federation Deputy General Secretary Abhishek Yadav at the press conference.

Women’s International Senior Football Tournament to have 7

The Women’s International Senior Tournament will have seven matches to be played in Kerala. This apart, as many as 40 matches each in the national sub-junior and junior tournaments will also be played in state. These tournaments will have the participation of various states in the country.

All India Football Federation Deputy General Secretary Abhishek Yadav said that the AIFF is ready to host the camp of the Indian Under-16 team in Kerala, which is preparing to compete in the World Cup qualifying round. One day a week, local teams will be given the opportunity to compete with the national team. The National Women’s Senior Team Camp will also be held in Kerala.

The AIFF will support baby leagues, junior and senior leagues from the local level to the state-level. The project has been kick started in Bengal. The winning teams at the panchayat level will compete at the district level. The 14 winning teams will compete at the state level. The project will be overseen by AIFF.

AIFF will take the lead in organising training classes for football coaches too. These classes will enable coaches to obtain coaching licenses. AIFF has offered the services of national coaches in these classes. Assistance will also be provided for training for referees.
