History and Background
According to the old Roman Calendar, 15th march was celebrated as New Year’s Day. However, the evolution from the lunar calendar to the Gregorian calendar commenced with the early Roman calendar. Currently, everyone is following the Gregorian Calendar. Due to this, everyone celebrates a common new year on 1st January every year.
Various Historians credit Julius Ceasar, the Roman Emporer, for developing and designating 1st January as the first day of a new year. In 1582, the Gregorian Calendar was introduced when Pope Gregory XIII aligned the calendar with the earth’s rotation around the Sun, marking 365 Days.

This day is usually used by people to create resolutions for the upcoming year. Some make resolutions like lose weight in 6 months, eat healthy food, do not eat junk food, etc. More than a celebration, today is like a welcome for the new year.
