Not Afghani citizens this time, Taliban targets female mannequins in the name of Sharia

The Directorate of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in the western province of Herat has announced that from now onwards, female mannequins shall not be displayed in the shops to maintain the ‘divine’ Sharia law

As a part of their new liberalism, the Taliban has ordered shopkeepers of Herat city to behead their female mannequins in the name of Sharia law.

A report in Raha Press quoted an official in the Directorate of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in the western province of Herat that now onwards, female mannequins shall not be displayed in the shops to maintain the ‘divine’ Sharia law.

When the shopkeepers complained about the predicted losses that they will incur due to the rule, the Taliban bend the rule without much to change.

An act of pseudo liberalism

The Taliban is infamous for beheading anyone who dares to stand against them. Their policy of beheading protestors or criminals is now extended to non-living objects. Apart from mannequins, they have also targeted musical instruments, citing that music is un-Islamic as per the Sharia law.

The so-called liberal Taliban have asked the taxi drivers not to offer rides to unveiled women without a close male relative. They are eyeing to complete their new mission to destroy anything that can be termed as ‘non-Sharia’. They have banned modern education. And resonate their ban to people by telling them that there is no need for it even if Afghanistan crumbles with hunger and a crippling economy.

An additional financial loss

Aziz Rahman, the head of the local department of the ministry has said that mannequins are “statues”. He has claimed that shopkeepers are worshipping them and that is prohibited under Islam.

One of the shopkeepers has told the Raha Press that his mannequins are his lost possessions. The ruling will add to his losses in a floundering economy. Mannequins in Afghanistan cost around $60 to $100.

Despite the shopkeeper’s plea about their additional financial loss, the ruling asked them to behead the “idols”. As per the new rule, the shopkeepers should cut their mannequins head off to avoid stringent punishment. Taliban is already in-famous for corporal punishments like flogging, beheading, stoning women, amputating and others.
