Confrontation over the issue of ‘Shahi Sawari’ in Agar, Malwa; Madhya Pradesh

NDTV reports that BJYM, Hindu Organization blocked the road. Police had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the unruly mob.

Hindu organizations later blocked the State Highway. It led to a traffic jam before a large posse of Police arrived. The Police had to resort to baton charges to disperse the unruly mob, also pelting stones. Several activists of the BJYP, including its district president, have been detained.

There are reports of a tussle between Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Hindu organizations, and police administration over the royal ride of Baijnath Mahadev, which traditionally leaves in Agar Malwa Madhya Pradesh.

Hindu Organization Want ‘Shahi Sawari’ Again

As per protocol, the Shahi Sawari was completed by the administration on August 16. The administration had kept it a low-key affair considering the COVID- 19 protocols. Hindu Organizations were not satisfied, and they demanded to take out the royal ride again on August 23.

The latest ruckus was caused due to the adamant attitude of the Hindu Organization who was hell-bent on taking out the procession on August 23.

Congress MLA Vipin Wankhede is also said to be under house arrest. For the last one week, hectic parlays were conducted between Bhakt Mandal, apart from the Hindu Parishad, regarding the withdrawal of the ride.

Police Resort To Lathi Charge

Leaders of Hindu organizations and activists of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha gathered in large numbers at the city’s main square and blocked the state highway. The heavy police force was deployed around the temple to prevent the proposed ride. When all requests to open the roadblock failed, Police resorted to lathi-charge as a last measure.
