Sonu Sood to be the brand ambassador for Delhi Govt’s Child Mentorship Program: Kejriwal

Kejriwal announces Sonu Sood as the brand ambassador for Delhi Government’s child mentorship program ahead of Punjab polls as a poll-push measure

New Delhi: CM Arvind Kejriwal today announced that Sonu Sood has agreed to become the brand ambassador for Delhi Government’s child mentorship program in a joint press conference with the actor. The news comes when AAP preparations to spearhead Punjab Polls in 2022 are in full swing.

The announcement is touted as a poll push measure for the upcoming Punjab elections. Earlier, Sonu’s sister, Malvika Sood Sachar was speculated to contest polls from the Moga constituency on a Congress ticket.

However, Sonu Sood had rejected the speculation of either his sister or him taking the poll plunge. According to The Tribune, Sonu said that his relationship and meeting with the politicians are personal and professional.

Sonu Sood on Delhi Government Child Mentorship Program

Actor Sonu Sood expressed his gratitude to the government for approaching him to become the brand ambassador of the program.

“The Delhi government has created a platform for all of you to come forward. It is a great opportunity. I feel blessed that I can reach lakhs of students,” he said in the press conference.

He has denied any political motive behind his selection. However, Sonu has said that discussion about anything political has not yet happened.

The program has already begun as a pilot project. Elaborating on the details of the program, Arvind Kejriwal has said that a lot of kids in government schools come from poor households and are not aware of the lucrative career prospects in creative fields like films, music, and many more.

“The parents of these kids do not have time to guide their children. I request people from creative backgrounds to come forward and mentor these kids,” Kejriwal said in the joint press conference.

The mentorship program will also help to decrease suicidal rates among teenagers.

The announcement was made after a meeting between the CM and the actor.

A News 18 report said, the meeting was held a day after Kejriwal announced that the AAP government would soon come up with ‘the most progressive’ film policy in the country, which would provide a massive boost to the entertainment industry.

The Sonu Sood Foundation and Education

Through Sambhavam, several students with financial difficulties can apply for a merit-based scholarship to fulfill their dreams.

Apart from this, Sonu’s foundation has also launched Professor Saroj Sood Scholarship (UG & PG Scholarships) program. This initiative is named after his late mother Saroj Sood and offers full scholarships to students who want to complete higher education irrespective of financial difficulties.

AAP in Punjab Polls

Yesterday AAP‘s national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal welcomed ex-Akali Dal leader Sewa Singh Sekhwan to the party. He tweeted, “I welcome Seva Singh Sekhwan, a well-known name in Punjab politics, to the Aam Aadmi Party family.”

Sekhwan was a member of Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt). He was also a former minister in the Prakash Singh Badal-led cabinet. He quit the parent party Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in 2018 over a rift with the party leadership and joined Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt).

After quitting SAD, the 71-year-old politician, former MP Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, and former MP Rattan Singh Ajnala had formed SAD (Taksali). Sekhwan later joined Dhindsa’s SAD (Democratic).

Both the fraction of SAD was dissolved in May 2021, and SAD (Sanyukt) was formed. Sekhwan was the senior vice-president of the new party.
